The first Sai Kung infrared photography workshop was held today. We walked along the seaside and let the kids find out where the solar panels were in the community. They were very excited to take pictures of the scenery with the infrared camera, as well as their parents and friends. After photographing, they noticed that the colour of the sea in the camera was blue and the kayak was red in the pictures. They found out that though both were directly heated by the sun, the kayak, which has lower heat capacity, radiated more energy than the sea. One of the exciting things is, they were just eager to tell us about their discoveries!
For the last part of the trip, we took out the bubble guns. The children ran excitedly after the bubbles, and even a little girl, who was not very talkable, offered to play.
The children are still very young and may not know much about infrared and energy, but they try their best to answer our questions regarding energy use in the community during the event. We hope they will explore and be alert to the issues of community energy, from a young energy scientist to a green energy ambassador in the community in the future!
