The SEE "Smart Energy Community" research project has been running since 2022 by the Department of Geography and the Asian Energy Studies Centre of Hong Kong Baptist University. We worked with 600 households in four communities in Hong Kong from 2022 to 2024, to collect data, exchange knowledge and engage in dialogue through various community engagement activities. The project's outcome will contribute to Hong Kong's carbon neutrality goal by 2050.
With the achievement of the research project, we are bringing the research to Bristol, UK, and also adding Shenzhen, Seoul and Taipei as our impact communities. A series of cross-city community engagement activities will be launched in the coming year.

Be SMART in Energy!
The SEE "Smart Energy Community" research is now in Phase 2!
We are extending the project to Seoul and the Greater Bristol area, in the United Kingdom, as our case cities following Hong Kong.
We are inviting 100 households from these two cities to join us for a social learning journey from Sept 24 - Oct 25, 2024. Through smart social learning in the communities, we would step towards the net zero carbon goal with VISION, APPROACH, and ACTION PLANS.
AESC brings together an international research consortium of some 20+ academics and more than 10 organisational partners to our smart energy community research. The first phase, focusing in four communities in Hong Kong, started in 2021 and is about to end in December 2025. Its second phase commenced in 2023, expanding our research from Hong Kong to Seoul and Bristol. And is expected to conclude in 2026.
