Background

Climate change, driven by rising concentrations of greenhouse gases, poses a significant global challenge. In 2019, the total carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from energy consumption of the residential sector in Hong Kong is approximately equivalent to the fall of 104,000,000 trees annually.
The Hong Kong Government has set a target for carbon neutrality by 2050 and is actively developing renewable energy sources to reduce carbon emissions. To foster a smart energy community, the Asian Energy Studies Centre at the Hong Kong Baptist University is engaging households across Hong Kong, Bristol and Seoul in practising and promoting energy-saving practices and solar energy initiatives. This effort involves collaboration with educational institutions, businesses and non-governmental organisations etc.
Tackling climate change cannot rest solely on governments and businesses, it requires the participation of every one of us. Therefore, we sincerely invite your organisation to sign the “Smart Energy Community Charter 2025”, committing to be proactive in energy saving and carbon reduction to achieve carbon neutrality together.
