The Department of Geography and the Asian Energy Studies Centre (AESC) of Hong Kong Baptist University have long been committed to promoting community-based low-carbon transformation. In collaboration with Kai Shing Management Services, we have actively encouraged residents in Sheung Shui to adopt renewable energy and low-carbon living practices.
Following the earlier establishment of a solar experimental base at Metropolis Plaza, AESC and the property management team of Metropolis Plaza co-organised the “Building Low-Carbon Communities: Dialogue with Property Management”, bringing together property management professionals to share and exchange experiences.
During the session, Mr Barry TAM, Senior Property & Facility Manager of Kai Shing Management Services, shared Kai Shing’s experiences in promoting solar research and community climate education at Metropolis Plaza. This included staff training for property managers, supporting community engagement activities under the SEE Smart Energy Community initiative, and collaborating with a local primary school on the development of a low-carbon energy education base.
Ir Dr Cary CHAN, MH, JP, Honorary Advisor of AESC, also shared insights from his extensive experience in green property management. He spoke on how to integrate green practices at the management level, and how these efforts can align with broader ESG goals within companies.
A total of 12 representatives from Kai Shing’s property management team joined the exchange session, including staff from The Wings, East Point City, Park Island, and Aegean Coast. Through interactive discussions and knowledge sharing, participants gained fresh ideas on how to embed low-carbon practices into everyday property management.
The session marked another step forward in fostering collaboration between research and industry, and expanding low-carbon community initiatives across more developments in Hong Kong.
