Date: 20th May 2024
Venue: Fung Kai No.1 Primary School
The Hong Kong Baptist University Asia Energy Center and Fung Kai No.1 Primary School held the "HKBU SEE x Fung Kai No.1 Low-Carbon Energy Base Showcase and Green Energy Carnival". As an event to showcase the amazing results of the past year's STEM solar energy teaching to the kindergarten students and parents of Fung Kai, three partner organizations - Luen Wo Hui Recycling Store, Endeavour Environmental Education Development Fund, and CLP Green Studio - also brought the message of green and low-carbon living to the community.
The "HKBU SEE x Fung Kai No.1 Community Energy Base" was officially established last April. Through this community hub and a series of STEM education activities, we hoped to promote the concept of low-carbon energy to the Sheung Shui community and encourage everyone to walk the talk in their daily lives.
On the day, 20 kindergarten students experienced our STEM workshops, where they made solar-powered toy cars and learned about practical tips to better integrate solar energy into daily life. We also displayed the past works of the Fung Kai No.1 "Little Energy Scientists Programme", along with card games and 1:1 solar installation, allowing the children to learn through play.
In addition, the venue also set up a green living area, with various workshops and experiential activities, such as food waste composting and coffee grounds sachet workshops. The children could also upcycle plastic bottles into umbrella covers and make practical triangular bags from paper drink cartons.
This showcase can be seen as an important milestone in the collaboration between Fung Kai No.1 Primary School and Hong Kong Baptist University, and has also set a model for low-carbon development for the entire community.
