AESC X GEST AI-assisted Simplified Energy Audit Training

Updated: 2 hours ago

Dates: 20 March & 1 April 2026

Location: The Wings II Clubhouse

The Asian Energy Studies Centre (AESC) of the Department of Geography at Hong Kong Baptist University, in collaboration with the Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Green Energy and Smart Technology (GEST) Programme of the Department of Physics, jointly organised the “AI-Assisted Simplified Energy Audit” training programme. Through a combination of classroom lecture and field application, the programme aimed to equip students with fundamental knowledge of energy auditing and practical skills in using measurement tools, while enhancing their understanding of energy management and energy-saving strategies.

Session 1: Introduction to Energy Audit Concepts and Processes

During the classroom training session, students were first introduced to the core principles of energy auditing, followed by learning the key stages of the process. At the same time, the session also let students familiarise with the key building information of the venue, including annual electricity consumption, floor plans, lighting system layouts, and air-conditioning system layouts, and prepare before the

site investigation.

Session 2: Site Observation and Data Collection

On 1 April 2026, 15 students, accompanied by four HKBU staff members and three officers from the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD), conducted a simplified energy audit at the residential clubhouse of The Wings II in Tseung Kwan O.

During the site visit, students applied their knowledge in a real-world setting by carrying out on-site measurements of temperature, humidity, and lighting levels. They also recorded the operation of lighting and air-conditioning systems, as well as patterns of electricity usage. Throughout the process, EMSD officers guided students on how to conduct an energy audit and explained the purpose of different measurements, helping them better connect theoretical knowledge with practical application. After completing the site investigation, each group compiled and analyzed the collected data to produce a report.

This cross-sector collaboration highlights that simplified energy auditing can be supported by training and expertise from different organizations, while successful

field investigations also rely on the cooperation and support of property management companies.
