HKBU’s AESC hosted the Hong Kong Green Energy Week Forum at the International Hydrogen Symposium 2026

HKBU and the Secretariat of Hong Kong Green Energy Week (Hong Kong) jointly hosted a parallel forum on 20 May 2026 entitled Hong Kong Green Energy Week Forum on “Advancing Urban Green and Low-Carbon Transformation Through New Energy Development: Hong Kong’s Experience and Contributions” at the International Hydrogen Development Symposium 2026 hosted by Electrical and Mechanical Services Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The International Hydrogen Development Symposium 2026 runs from May 18–20 as part of Hong Kong Hydrogen Week at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.


Organised by HKBU Asian Energy Studies Centre (AESC) and the Global Sustainable Development Research Institute, this parallel forum brought together government officials, industry leaders, energy experts, and academics to discuss hydrogen energy and green transition strategies. Speakers include Prof. LYU Aiping (Vice-President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School, Hong Kong Baptist University); Ir. Prof. SIT Wing Hang Alfred, GBS, JP (Chairman, Global Sustainable Development Research Institute; Senior Advisor to the President and Vice-Chancellor, Hong Kong Baptist University); Miss WONG Shuk-han, Diane, JP (Acting Secretary for Environment and Ecology, HKSAR); Prof. XU Qinhua (Vice Chair, Expert Committee, China Petroleum Enterprise Association; Professor, Renmin University of China); Mr. Peter WONG Wai-yee (Managing Director, Hong Kong and China Gas Co. Ltd., Chief Executive Officer of the Towngas Smart Energy Co. Ltd.); Mr. WANG Gang (Chairman, Shenzhen Energy Environment Co., Ltd.); and, Mr. CHEN Heyi (Executive Director, Hong Kong Recycling Chamber of Commerce).


AESC under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at HKBU has officially assumed the role of the Secretariat of Hong Kong Green Energy Week (Hong Kong). The event also featured the inaugurations of the Secretariat and the Hong Kong Green Energy Week Women’s Committee, alongside the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Global Sustainable Development Research Institute and partner enterprises.


The Forum concludes with an interdisciplinary roundtable with professors from HKBU and City University of Hong Kong, alongside industry practitioners on urban low-carbon transformation, reinforcing Hong Kong’s role as a hub for green energy innovation and international collaboration.
