Date: June 8, 2024
Time: 9:30 am to 4:00 pm
Location: Bristol, UK
This collaborative event was co-organised by the Department of Geography, Hong Kong Baptist University, and hosted by our PhD student who is currently on a research exchange at University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE). We are grateful to run this event with the support of Baggator Nexus, UWE, and Café Conscious in Barton Hill and Easton.
The "Envisioning Low-Carbon Energy Community Workshop" was designed for inspiring young minds aged 9-15. We challenged these future leaders to use their creativities to envision their own low-carbon energy communities.
Here's a glimpse into the participants' journey:
Poster Design: The workshop kicked off with participants designing their own posters promoting renewable energy sources. We saw how youths redesigned their homes into more sustainable and renewable ones, as well as how they envisioned their communities should be reformed.
Renewable Energy Introductory 101: We delved into the world of wind turbines, solar panels, and other cool technologies that can power our future in a sustainable way. The young minds were eager to learn and asked some fantastic questions!
Mapping the Future: Armed with their knowledge on renewables and sustainability, participants mapped out where they envisioned these renewable energy or low-carbon facilities within their own communities.
Solar Car Challenge: As a finale, the participants built their own solar cars, putting their learning to the test and showing them the power of clean energy in action. The creativity and teamwork were truly impressive!
We were so impressed by the creativity and passion these young minds displayed. We are very excited to be a part of Barton Hill and Easton, and we look forward to engaging more people in the future.
